Budget-Friendly Comfort at Puerta del Sol

We really enjoyed our stay at Hotel Europa in Madrid, Spain- and here’s why: great price, unbeatable location, and family friendly rooms. We were looking for a locally owned hotel in the heart of Madrid’s historic district, near Puerta del Sol, and needed a triple room– which isn’t always easy to find last minute. Hotel Europa Madrid was everything we were looking for.
When booking directly through the hotel, you can request a specific room- and you can see it with their virtual map on the Hotel Europa Website. Some rooms offer lively views overlooking Puerta del Sol, perfect for people-watching in Madrid’s busiest square. But for us, peace and quiet were the priority. Our room faced a small interior courtyard. Not much of a view.. but it was super quiet, and we slept great.

The room included a mini-fridge, an in-roof safe, and a compact closet for storage. The bathroom was surprisingly spacious, and the room also came with a small electric kettle, which was a nice touch. (They were a little stingy with the coffee, we brought instant coffee packets from home- because we drink far too much!).

The room has a small refrigerator, and a safe, and this little closet is the only storage space. The bathroom was spacious. The hotel comes with a small kettle

Dining at Hotel Europa
Hotel Europa does not include free breakfast, but there is a restaurant on-site. We skipped breakfast here because Madrid’s bakeries are irresistible, but we did enjoy dinner at the hotel once. Not our favorite meal in Madrid, but convenient after a long day of sightseeing. Guests can get 10% off meals, but you need to ask for the discount– it’s not applied automatically.
Booking Tips
A note about booking direct- this is always the best way to support the local business. If you book direct, you will need to translate the website into English (if you don’t speak Spanish). The reserve the room, then you will get an email (in Spanish) asking you to pay for the first night to reserve the room.

If you are not comforable with that process, you can reserve the room with Booking.com here , still at a great rate and with easy English-language booking.
