Waitomo Caves Guest Lodge Review

Looking for a place to stay in Waitomo? There are not a ton of places to choose from in Waitomo as it’s a super small little town. I was looking forward to an evening in the countryside and I wanted to make sure I had plenty of time to enjoy the caves without feeling rushed.

If you want to slow down, enjoy the scenery and the birds and relax a bit- this is a great little town to stay in!

The Waitomo Caves Guest Lodge is a little bed & breakfast with about 6 rooms right off the main highway. Look for the little flag along the main road.

Parking is down the steep driveway around the corner, so if you have heavy bags to bring in, you can pull in the steep driveway for checkin – then move your car after your bags are in.

The owners here are super nice. The evening we arrived, they were cooking a curry dinner, and offered that as a dinner option if we wanted (I’m not sure the price- we declined)- but that may be an option for you. Each room has a private entry, and the property was quiet except for loads and loads of birds!

There are so many blooming plants and trees around the property we enjoyed walking around in the morning before breakfast.

Our Room

We had a room with 1 queen bed and 1 twin bed, and a private bathroom (I’m pretty sure it was Room 4). The room was very comfortable with AC/Heat, and the beds also had heated blankets! There was instant coffee and tea with a kettle in the room as well.

What to Expect at Breakfast

The eating area was so pretty!

The breakfast was good, with a beautiful kitchen area and deck to eat. Just know, it is not a hot breakfast, it was continental style- with breads and a variety of jams, yogurt, fruit, cereal, juice and coffee. By the way, they had plenty of other spreads besides Vegemite! Ha!

I tried it here and No..I didn’t like it!

Other Nearby Properties

Here are a few other nearby places I looked at while planning my stay, if you’re exploring alternatives.

Woodlyn Park Motel

There’s an interesting one with train cars and airplanes you can stay in if you are looking for something a little different. This caught my eye as a unique option, though I ultimately chose something more traditional.

Abseil Inn

There’s another bed and Breakfast that looked pretty good:
