We really enjoyed our stay at the Hotel Europa- and here’s why: the right price, and the perfect location. We were specifically looking for a locally owned room, in the heart of Madrid’s historic district, near Puerto del Sol, and needed a triple room which isn’t always easy to find last-minute. Hotel Europa ended up being a great fit.
When booking directly through the hotel, you can request a specific room- and you can see it with their virtual map on their website. Some rooms offer lively views overlooking Puerta del Sol, which could be fun for people-watching. But for us, quiet and a good night’s sleep were the priority. Our room faced a small interior courtyard—not much of a view—but it was extremely quiet, and we slept great.
The room included a small refrigerator, a safe, and a compact closet for storage. The bathroom was spacious, and the room also came with a small electric kettle, which was a nice touch.

Hotel Europa does not offer free breakfast, but there is a restaurant on-site. We didn’t try breakfast there since Madrid has so many fantastic bakeries nearby that we wanted to explore. We did have dinner at the hotel once, and while it wasn’t our favorite meal of the trip, it was convenient after a long day. If you’re staying at the hotel, you can get 10% off your meal, but be sure to ask—they don’t apply the discount automatically.
A note about booking direct- this is always the best way to support the local business. When you book through third party sites, the hotel usually has to pay a fee to the 3rd party for allowing the booking. You can interpret the website into English. The reserve the room, then you will get an email (in Spanish) asking you to pay for the first night to reserve the room.
